Niagara Region sees 38 new COVID-19 cases today and 14 residents hospitalized

There were 38 new cases of COVID-19 reported today (October 7) in the Niagara Region, nearly matching the month’s high-mark when 41 were hit on October 1.
As well, 14 Niagara residents are currently hospitalized (four in ICU) with only one being vaccinated.
One of the patients is under 14 and not vaccinated. However, the age was not revealed so it’s uncertain if he or she qualifies for vaccination (11 years and older) or is below that age and not qualified to be vaxxed.
As predicted months ago by prominent Niagara medical officials, the Delta variant is the only strain in the region, accounting for nine per cent of the cases while the remaining 91 per cent are “likely” Delta.
St Catharine maintained its two-day caseload lead with 58 cases followed by Niagara Falls at 51. Fort Erie, Welland and Thorold follow those municipalities with 29, 26 and 24 cases respectively.
The remaining seven municipalities range between West Lincoln with two cases and Grimsby with 12.
