Niagara Region sees 43 new COVID-19 cases, pushing active ones up to 278

Niagara Region Public Health announced there were 43 new COVID-19 cases today (September 10), pushing the active cases up to 278 – the highest it’s been in months.

The Delta variant continues to be the leading cause with 99 per cent of all ongoing cases. Alpha, the original COVID-19 strain, accounts for less than one per cent.

Niagara Falls continues to lead the 12 municipalities with 85 active cases while St Catharines has 67.

All but three municipalities have double-digit case counts with Thorold at 29, Welland at 19 and Grimsby at 17. Following those are Port Colborne, Fort Erie, Pelham and Niagara-on-the-Lake with 13, 12, 11 and 10 respectively.

Wainfleet remains the only municipality with zero cases.
