There will be no fireworks at Niagara Falls tonight (June 12) but there will be a colourful celebration there nonetheless.

While Niagara Parks reports that while the fireworks are being paused for a sixth consecutive day since June 7 due to the poor air quality from the northeast Ontario and Quebec wildfires, they will return tomorrow (June 13) with the lifting of fire bans in the area.

However, the stunning victory of Winnipeg-born golfer Nick Taylor yesterday (June 11) at the Canadian Open means the falls will be lit up tonight in red and white to honour his victory.

By now, most have seen Taylor dropping an astounding 72-foot putt to win it all yesterday at Oakdale Golf & Country Club in Toronto – the first Canadian to win the country’s tournament in 69 years.

Since it’s been 25,166 days since a Canadian last won the Canadian Open, here’s Taylor in his own words after it was all over.
