One man with serious injuries following a campground stabbing in Port Colborne

A fight that broke out near a basketball court at Sherkston Shores campground on Saturday evening left one man with a serious stab wound — who was later air-lifted to an out-of-region hospital, while the suspect remains at large.

On Saturday (May. 20) at approximately 10:30 p.m., Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a report of a stabbing in Port Colborne.

Police say they attended Sherkston Shores campground located at 490 Empire Rd, where they spoke with a 22-year-old man who was suffering from a serious stab wound.

According to police, the Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics treated the victim at the scene before transporting him to a local hospital for further care.

Despite treatment efforts the victim was later flown by an Ornge Air Amblance helicopter to an out of region hospital.

After further investigations, police determined that a fight had occurred at a basketball court on the campgrounds and by the time the Sherkston Shores Security personnel arrived at the scene, many of the people involved had fled.

Police say they did make an arrest at the campground, but the individual was later released unconditionally.

The investigation is ongoing as detectives continue to collect suspect information as there were many people in the campground at the time of the incident.
