One of Thorold’s worst roads getting a complete make-over

Notice to Thorold drivers: If you can avoid Broderick Ave. between Westmount Ave. and West St., it may be best to do so.
Construction began yesterday (July 20) as part of the city’s current Strategic Plan “to build and sustain infrastructure that generates civic pride.” The city says the work will be done by summer 2024.
As you can see, this particular road needs some major repairs and when the city got feedback from its own residents, this was considered a priority repair job.
“We were pleased to see Council approve this key infrastructure project as part of the 2023 budget,” says Thorold CAO Manoj Dilwaria.
“We had a great turnout at the public information centres that were held for this project. I’d like to thank all of the local area residents who took the time to participate and provide their feedback, which was incorporated into the final design that was recently approved by Council.”
Improvements will include the replacement of the existing storm sewer, the replacement of sidewalks and curbs, and the installation of new roadway lighting
The plans for these upgrades date back to 2020 when Thorold initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment for this project, where a variety of road cross-section improvements and replacement alternatives were evaluated.
Reconstruction of Broderick Ave. between Westmount Ave. and West St. began yesterday.
