Pelham Regional Councillor Diana Huson was selected to be on the Board of Directors of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) for a second term.

Before Pelham Regional Councillor Diana Huson was selected to be on the Board of Directors of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) in the last term, Niagara had never previously had a voice on the board.

That’s a lot of silent years considering the FCM was founded in March 1937, as well as the fact that Niagara sees over 12 million tourists every year and thus, needs a voice at the table just as a destination region alone.

Niagara’s voice will continue for another term as Huson was reappointed this week to serve on the FCM’s Board of Directors.

“I am eager to continue my work on the board, building upon my previous successes, while making sure that Niagara’s priorities are well represented with legislators in the federal government,” said Huson.

The FCM is considered the voice of local government across Canada, playing an important role in advocating for municipalities as it sets policy priorities that reflect the concerns of municipal governments around the country.

Of the 444 municipalities in Ontario, there are only 14 seats for the Ontario Caucus.

Niagara Regional Chair Jim Bradley was happy with the reappointment, noting, “With Councillor Huson securing a second term on this influential board we can be sure that Niagara will continue to have a strong voice at the table when vital decisions are being made.”

“I am confident that Councillor Huson will continue to be an effective advocate in Ottawa for Niagara’s priorities, as well as other municipalities across Ontario.”
