When Regional Road 69 in Pelham gets shuts down next Wednesday (April 13), it won’t be for a quick fix.

The length of Pelham Road (Regional Road 69) between Twenty Road and Wessel Drive will be closed from April 13 to June 3 – a stretch of some seven and a half weeks in total.

Obviously, the construction is significant to shut down a major road like that. It seems the road closure is “necessary to complete a concrete culvert replacement and associated road works.”

While the roadwork project is rubber-stamped at a higher level – Niagara Region – local businesses and residents have been assured they have access during the closure “but may be directed to take an alternate route to get to their destination.”

Alternate detour routes being suggested by both the town and the region are: Regional Road 24 (Victoria Ave), Regional Road 81 (King Street/St. Paul Street West) and Regional Road 28 (Fifth Street Louth).

However, fire, police and EMS are being forewarned “emergency services will NOT have access through the work zone. Access can be achieved through alternative routes.”

Niagara Region says any inquiries concerning this project may be directed to Niagara Region Dispatch at 905-984-3690 or Mike WilsonManager of Capital Projects, Transportation Engineering, at 905-980-6000 extension 3183.
