Niagara Police are appealing to the public for help in identifying the driver of a truck that struck and seriously injured an elderly man who was cycling in Niagara-on-the-Lake on July 13.
Police were on a routine patrol when they found an 84-year-old man lying in the north side drainage ditch on East West Line at Concession 2 after the hit-and-run collision.
He was treated at the scene by Niagara EMS paramedics before being airlifted to an out-of-town hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Last week, police said he was hit by a truck or utility vehicle. However, they have since narrowed the potential vehicle down, suggesting it was either a (1994-1999) GMC Yukon, Chevrolet Suburban, or a GMC Sierra pick-up truck.
Police say the vehicle might be pewter metallic or silver and that it would be missing a passenger side view mirror and have damage to the passenger side front corner (photos above and below).
Police are asking the public for any information. They are also asking autobody repair shops and auto parts dealers to be on the lookout “for transactions that may be suspicious or related.”
Detectives can be contacted by calling 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009089.
Anyone (residents or businesses) in the area with closed circuit security cameras, doorbell video cameras, or dash cameras are asked to review their footage for suspicious activity or a similar suspect vehicle for the period between 7:00 pm and 8:45 pm on July 13.
