A Port Colborne nurse is facing charges after Niagara Police discovered a two-year-old boy in their care had suffered serious injuries.
The police responded to a call in Thorold on August 5 and found that the two-year-old “with significant medical limitations” have been injured. The EMS immediately shuttled him to a local hospital before he was shifted to an out-of-town facility.
He has been listed in stable condition and will stay at the hospital for a while.
The police brought in their Child Abuse Unit (CAU) who determined that the suspect, a registered practical nurse, had “deliberately” injured the boy.
Yesterday (August 8), Eric Hang, 23, of Port Colborne was charged with assault with a weapon, aggravated assault and two counts of assault.
The suspect is being held for a bail hearing on August 9 via video link to the courthouse in St. Catharines.
Police say the suspect has been a registered practical nurse for over a year and have concerns there may be additional vulnerable victims. They says the investigation is on-going and further charges may follow.
