Between yesterday and today (June 1), rainbow flags were raised at every city and town hall in Niagara Region to usher in Pride Month.

Of course, the Niagara Regional headquarters in Thorold rounded it out with the 13th flag to head up the pole, accompanied with some supportive words from Regional Chair Jim Bradley.

“Today I join with residents all over Niagara to raise the Progress Pride Flag in support of 2SLGBTQQIA+ communities and officially kick off Pride Month in Niagara,” he said.

Bradley said Pride month is a time to celebrate the steadfast tenacity of gender-and sexually-diverse individuals who have fought, and continue to fight, for unqualified equality and freedom.

“It is also a time for us to remember both the past and ongoing struggles of sexually and gender diverse residents, and reflect on ways we can all work together to create a more welcoming community for everyone.”

Bradley pledged that council would embrace diversity and inclusiveness as part of their ongoing mandate.

“Here in Niagara, this term of council has been taking steps to help build a more inclusive region. We fully acknowledge more remains to be done but we have demonstrated our commitment to prioritizing inclusivity and will continue to do so as we move forward together.”
