Severe thunderstorm warning for St. Catharines, northern Niagara

At 4:05 p.m. today (August 18), Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing heavy rain.
To that end, they have issued a “severe thunderstorm warning in effect for St. Catharines – Grimsby – Northern Niagara Region.”
Presently, the humidity is sitting at 38 per cent.
Environment Canada said this severe thunderstorm is located five km northwest of Pelham and is nearly stationary.
They says to expect “Torrential rainfall with amounts of 50 to 75 mm (20 to 30 inches) of rain.”
“Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on road,” the agency warns. “If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.”
“Rapidly rising rivers and creeks can sweep away bridges, culverts, buildings, and people.”
The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that residents take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
