St Catharines is calling on the Province to look into the nursing issues facing the community, particularly now that they’ve been worked to the bone during the 19 months of COVID-19.
City Council their concerns regarding burnout from the pandemic and the potential for nursing shortages to have an impact on in-class learning for students, “especially medically fragile children who require one-on-one care.”
Council also asked the province to look at greater incentives to retain qualified nurses, and the allowance of trained caregivers to fill roles.
The Council’s resolution was sent to provincial leaders, including Premier Doug Ford and provincial Health Minister Christine Elliott, along with area MPPS, the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, and local area municipalities.
