St Catharines saw the third-highest annual rental hikes among the Top-10 most expensive markets in all of Canada this year.
According to zumper.com, the annual rental rates for a two-bedroom unit in St Catharines jumped 9.3 per cent. Only Kelowna, BC and Barrie saw higher jumps of 24.6 and 10.8 respectively over this point in October last year.
However, if you wanted a one-bedroom unit in St Catharines, watch out because it was the highest annual jump from last year at 15.4 per cent.
In fact, if, say, you’re a Brock University student, it makes far more sense to find a roommate and take the two bedroom unit in the Garden City as the difference is just $140/month, the small differential among the Top-10.
The average cost of a one-bedroom in St Catharines is $1,500/month as opposed to a two-bedroom at $1,640 – seventh-highest in Canada.
Rounding out the Top-10 were Vancouver ($2,130 for one bdrm, $2,900 for two bdrm), Toronto ($1,800 and $2,250), Barrie ($1,700 and $1,850), Kelowna ($1,610 and $2,180), Victoria ($1,600 and $2,150), Oshawa ($1,560 and $1,720), Ottawa ($1,500 and $1,800), Kitchener ($1,480 and $1,710) and Hamilton ($1,450 and $1,790).
