The late Christopher Reeves and late Margot Kidder film a scene for "Superman II" at Niagara Falls.

When it comes to leading roles in movies, it looks like the star in Canada is still Niagara Falls.

A 2021 study looked at the most-filmed locations throughout the world and Niagara Falls was easily the Canadian winner.

The study, which was conducted by NetCredit, used IMDb Advanced Search to find movies from 1900 to 2020 and then sorted the results based on country and location.

Niagara Falls ended up with 142 movie credits on IMDb, beating out even the Eiffel Tower with 95 screen appearances.

However, it was a long distance behind New York City’s Central Park which has 532 IMDb credits under its tree-lined belt.

The best known movies filmed at the falls include the dark suspense “Niagara” (1952) starring Marilyn Monroe, screwball comedy “Luv” (1967) starring Jack Lemmon, espionage thriller “Last Embrace” (1979) starring Roy Scheider, action-adventure “Superman II” (1980) starring Christopher Reeves, hilarious comedy “Bruce Almighty” (2003) starring Jim Carrey and “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” (2006) starring Johnny Depp.
