Ontario, Niagara, St. Catharines, police, collision, cyclist, SUV, teenager, dies

A 25-year-old man is wanted for allegedly stealing a vehicle on Saturday night and driving to a residence in Beamsville in the Town of Lincoln where he walked up to the home firing several shots —while the occupants were asleep, before returning back to the car and speeding away from the scene.

On May. 20 shortly after 11:30 p.m., Niagara Regional Police Service responded to a shooting incident on Central Ave between John St / Jackson St in Beamsville in the Town of Lincoln.

Police say they determined that a white Hyundai Santa Fe SUV had driven by the home before returning back.

A man then exited the driver’s side of the vehicle and around 11:35 p.m. approached the front of the residence where he fired around eight shots at the house from a handgun, officers said.

According to investigators the house and an adjacent parked car were struck by the gunfire. Approximately two minutes later the suspect in the Hyundai proceeded to drive northbound on Central Ave at a high rate of speed fleeing the area.

Police say the occupants of the home were asleep at the time of the shooting, and no one was reported injured.

Detectives have reason to believe this is an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community stemming from this incident.

While investigators continue to develop suspect information, a description of the suspect has been released.

Police describe the suspect as being 25-year-old a black man, with a skinny build and black braided hair. He was wearing a dark coloured hoodie.

The Hyundai the suspect was driving, was later recovered in Hamilton. Police believe it had been stolen and driven to Lincoln within an hour of the shooting.

Detectives are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or have information to contact them by calling 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009935.
