There was a close call between the OPP and a suspected drunk driver on the QEW near Lyons Creek Road in Niagara Falls.

On July 2 at 1:30 a.m., the police were pulled over to investigate a collision where a car sped by, nearly clipping the cruiser. The police say he is a “suspected” impaired driver.

“Fortunately (there were) no injuries as the car sped by, but this behavior is incredibly dangerous,” tweeted the OPP.

The Highway Traffic Act says if a police cruiser or tow truck is pulled over onto the shoulder of the road for any reason, ongoing traffic should try to move one lane left if possible.

“When you see flashing emergency lights or amber lights of a tow truck, slow down, be aware, move over, and help us get home safe,” they tweeted.
