Two youths charged after May stabbing at St. Catharines mall

Niagara Police has arrested and charged two youths suspected of being involved with a May 20 stabbing at the Pen Centre shopping mall in St. Catharines.

On that day, police said a 20-year-old male victim was confronted by two youths in the mall near the food court. They said after a brief conversation, one of the youths pulled out a knife and allegedly stabbed him. They then ran out of the mall, taking off in an “unknown vehicle.”

The victim was treated and released from the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

Yesterday (July 5), Niagara Police charged two underage suspects.

A 15-year-old male from Welland has been charged with assault with a weapon (a skateboard).

A 14-year-old male from St. Catharines has been charged with assault with a weapon (a knife).

The Youth Criminal Justice Act of Canada prohibits the Niagara Region Police Service from releasing the identity of the accused.

Both males were held in custody for a video bail hearing at the courthouse in St. Catharines today (July 6).

The police added, “Detectives would like to thank those members of the public who have come forward with information as it assisted with the investigation.”
