Niagara College president Sean Kennedy has been chosen to run the 2022 United Way Niagara campaign.

Taking over from last year’s United Way Niagara campaign chair, Niagara Chief of Police Bryan MacCulloch, will be no easy feat but Niagara College President Sean Kennedy is not one to shy away from a challenge.

In an announcement on June 7, Kennedy was chosen as this year’s campaign chair, a position that begins in September, and one he called “an honour.”

“I am incredibly proud to be leading the 2022 Campaign for United Way Niagara. It is an honour to step into such an important role that many dedicated community leaders have held over the years. Niagara College is firmly committed to building a stronger community for all who live here,” said Kennedy.

“My involvement as Campaign Chair builds on the already strong partnership between the College and United Way. I look forward to launching the campaign this coming fall.”

Despite restraints caused by the pandemic, MacCulloch is coming off a hugely successful campaign that raised $4.75 million and supported a network of 126 social services agencies at 46 partner agencies. United Way calculated the campaign made a difference in the lives of nearly 123,000 local people.

”We are thrilled to welcome Sean Kennedy to the United Way team. As a loyal contributor for many years, Sean has a deep understanding of community needs and is well-positioned to lead the campaign, especially as our community continues to recover from the effects of COVID-19,” said Frances Hallworth, CEO, United Way Niagara.

“Sean’s personal commitment to United Way is exceptional, but his leadership as Campaign Chair also exemplifies the caring spirit of the Niagara College community. The College has been one of United Way’s top 20 employee campaigns for decades, and we’re really looking forward to continuing that partnership through this upcoming campaign.”
