The mayor of Niagara Falls blasted a TikTok video posted late last week showing a user filming himself literally at the brink of the falls.
The video, posted on the social media site on Thursday by TikTok user ‘Phantabae’, quickly caught the attention of the Niagara Parks Police on Friday, who said the user could face a fine of up to $10,000.
The video is of the young man, lying flat on his back at the brink of the falls, taking film of himself from different directions, who then foolheartedly stands up on the very spot, still filming himself.
It caught the attention of Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati today, who denounced it quickly.
“This type of stunt is a really bad idea. It’s exactly what we don’t need here in Niagara Falls,” Diodati said to a Toronto news station today (August 29).
“It sets a poor example for kids and they think it’s all about getting more views on social media. It’s really unfortunate where that’s going on.”
In the TikTok caption, user ‘Phantabae’ says he is a professional daredevil and tells others not to attempt the stunt.
