July is looking like a stellar month for entertainment on the Avalon Theatre stage in Niagara Falls’ Fallsview Casino and Resort.

Colin Jost, half of one of the funniest Weekend Update tag-teams with Michael Che on Saturday Night Live currently, has a two night gig on July 28 and 29. Also known these days as Mr. Scarlett Johansson, Jost has been a writer for SNL since 2005 and a Weekend Update co-anchor since 2014.

But the July entertainment opens with “Ghost: The Musical” running July 6 to 15. The romantic musical thriller, which first opened in England in 2011 and has hit Broadway since, centres on lovers Sam and Molly, who are attacked as they are returning to their apartment.

When Sam dies he becomes caught between the real world and the next. Molly is in danger and Sam cannot leave her. A medium, Oda Mae Brown, helps Sam to get in touch with Molly to warn her.

Among the most anticipated shows in July is music’s premier songstress through the 1980s, Pat Benatar. The winner of four consecutive Grammys for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance 1981 through 1984, Benatar will forever be remembered for such rock classics as “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” “Heartbreaker,” “Love Is A Battlefield” and We Belong.”

Benatar will be performing on July 16 with longtime guitarist and husband Neil Giraldo.

On July 21, you can hear the big pipes of Stephen Page, who along with Ed Robertson, was a founding member, lead singer, guitarist, and a primary songwriter for the beloved Canadian group, The Barenaked Ladies. Page was lead singer for some of their biggest hits, including “If I Had $1,000,000” and “One Week.”

In all, 97 of the 113 songs on the band’s primary studio albums during his tenure are credited or co-credited to Page.

Comedian Lewis Black is bringing his “Off The Rails” tour to Fallsview on July 22. Black’s comedy routines often escalate into angry rants about history, politics, religion, or any other cultural trends.

The month closes out on July 30 as folk-rock duo, The Milk Carton Kids, bring their southern California stylings to the stage.  Consisting of singers and guitarists Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan, they began making music together in early 2011 and have released six albums.
