Firefighters have to be ready for any emergency but this one might have surprised the crew at the Wainfleet Fire Station.

Early this morning (July 14) at 3 a.m., they were called to the scene when a 20-year-old horse named Carmen got stuck in a ditch.

Since the average adult horse weighs between 900 and 1,200 pounds, it wasn’t a case of simply pulling her out.

So with the combined effort of the Wainfleet Fire Station, the Spalding Fire Station, animal rescue, local farmers and an area vet, they were able to get straps under her so she could be crane-lifted out.

The firefighters didn’t say how long the rescue mission took but the end result was that Carmen was soon back up safely on flat earth.
