The Niagara Catholic District School Board (NCDSB) has revealed a broken watermain flooded the basement of Holy Cross Secondary School in St. Catharines, closing it for the week.

While maintenance crews tried their best to pump out the water yesterday (March 6), apparently “a fair amount remains (today).”

Even so when the crews do get the water out of the school’s basement, they still have to assess the damage to the property so the NCDSB shut the facility down for the week.

Like yesterday, the school had another day of online asynchronous learning while the board is looking to shift to synchronous learning for the rest of the week.

The NCDSB said parents were given the latest information through emails.

However, it didn’t stop the school’s Twitter page – @theangusarmy – from having some fun with the situation.

“As you’ve all heard, the school pool experiment was not successful,” posted the site. “As a result tomorrow is an asynchronous day while Wed-Fri is synchronous. Please check in with your teachers via the NCVLE and remember, ‘It must be nice having a pool’!”

They then attached a two-second clip from the movie “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” where one character utters the same line to another.
