Welland stabbing leaves one man in hospital and another charged

A stabbing in Welland yesterday (September 23) saw one man hospitalized and another man charged.

Niagara Police were called to the area of Patsy Avenue and 6th Street at 2 pm and once there, discovered a man in his 30s with serious stab wounds.

He was instantly treated by EMS, who then took him to the hospital. Once there, he was airlifted to an out-of-region hospital. His injuries are considered serious but not life-threatening.

It didn’t take long for the police to nab the suspect.

Darren John Verge, 44, of Welland has been charged with aggravated assault and failure to comply with probation.

Niagara Police believe that this is a targeted incident.

The incident is being investigated by the 3 District detective office and members of the NRPS Forensic Services Unit. Anyone who may have information about this incident is asked to call 905-688-4111, extension 1009024.
