Three up, three down.

Sounds like a perfect inning for a pitcher but, in fact, was the case in the best-of-five Intercounty Baseball League when the Welland Jackfish steamrolled over the Kitchener Panthers in three straight games.

That left Welland as the first team to make it out of Round One.

After winning Game One in Welland by a surprisingly tight 6-3 score, the Jackfish bats exploded after that.

Heading to Kitchener on Friday (August 26) night, they rocked the Panthers 12-2 to take Game 2.

The Panthers were up 1-0 after the first but the Jackfish stormed back with three-run innings in the fourth and seventh, coupled with two-run innings in the sixth, eighth and ning up an nth to salt away the convincing win.

Mike Wagner collected the win on the mound for the Jackfish.

Coming back to Welland Saturday (August 27) for the third game, Welland took a commanding lead early on, running up a 7-0 lead in the first four inning before cruising to an 8-2 win to shut out the series.

Rich Corrente was on the hill for the win.

Welland’s second round opponent hasn’t been determined yet as most of the other series are only two games deep.
