A Welland woman said she was left in a total daze after learning she’s won $1 million in the June 6 LOTTO MAX draw.
Laurie Dale, a 63-year-old delivery driver who’s been playing the lottery ever since she was old enough, admitted she initially thought she had happily won $100,000, only to have the cashier tell her, “It might be bigger than that.”
“I was in awe – it didn’t feel real!” said Dale, who’s been opting for Quick Picks lately. “When I left the store, I looked like a deer in headlights!”
She already had plans to retire next year “so this will serve as my retirement fund. Maybe I’ll buy a new car too! I still haven’t gotten it through my head that I’m a winner.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Esso on Ontario Road in Welland.
