Welland’s lazy river Floatfest returns this weekend

It’s the ultimate lazy summer afternoon activity — a floating caravan along the Welland Canal.

The Canadian Tire Floatfest is back on Sunday, July 3 after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19 gathering limit restrictions.

Known for setting the Guinness World Record for the longest line of touching inflatables at 165.74 metres, this event is like one big lazy river with hundreds of participants adrift in colourful floaties.

While the online registration has closed, it is not too late to join the fun. In-person registration starts at 10 a.m. at the Lincoln Street Docks / Rotary Club of Welland Park. It’s free to participate with a donation of a non-perishable food or hygiene item for the food bank.

Participants also need to bring an inflatable (no kayaks or canoes allowed) and there is an inflation station with an industrial size pump.

The launch is from the Lincoln Street docks at noon and all floaties must be out by 7 p.m.

The floating caravan will go from Lincoln Street Docks to the Lincoln Street Bridge. There are four exit points with signs before the final floating exit area.

The event also includes live music, vendors and food.
