West Niagara landfill depot reopens with Salvation Army as new partner

Like the other two main landfills in Niagara, as well as the smaller one in Fort Erie, the Niagara Road 12 Landfill in West Lincoln has a reusable goods depot for items that don’t have to be destined to the waste stream.
However, it’s been shut down for a while as the region looked for a community partner to run it.
The region announced that the depot was reopening today (March 22) with a new partner – the Salvation Army.
While the Niagara Road 12 Landfill is only available to residents of Grimsby, Lincoln, Pelham and West Lincoln, the two in Welland and Thorold service the rest of the region.
The landfill sites accept appliances, asbestos, asphalt, bricks and concrete and shingles for varying fees.
There is no charge for blue and grey box recyclables, electronics, tires, reusable goods and scrap metal, as well as household items such as bicycles, clean soil, fats, oil and grease, household hazardous waste, leaf and yard waste. Also included is household items made of hard plastics such as plastic toys, pools, totes, infant car seats, buckets, pails and pet carriers.
