The NRPS presented the data on Thursday, as part of National Impaired Driving Prevention Week. Across the entire Niagara Region, Sundays have been the busiest day for alcohol impaired arrests recently, with 84. That is almost 2½ times as many as Tuesdays, where there have been 34.
Saturday (73) and Friday (72) are second and third on the list.
There is little deviation from the mean with the daily counts for drug impaired arrests — which could involve illegal drugs, prescription drugs, over-the-counter substances and/or cannabis. Each day of the week has a total beteen 18 and 22.
Wednesday was No. 1 with 22, followed by Thursday with 21.
Impaired driving — by alcohol and/or drugs — is the biggest factor in serious crashes across Canada.
