An event that’s all about cats has been postponed to early 2025 after wildfires in Portugal displaced the event’s founder.

According to a post on the Niagara Falls Convention Centre’s official website, the upcoming CATstravaganza event–initially slated for Sept. 28 and 29 at the convention centre–has been pushed to Feb. 1 and 2, 2025.

In a post, Loving Cats Worldwide called the decision to postpone the event “difficult” but said it was made because the organization’s founder, Steven Meserve, was dealing with the aftermath of wildfires in Portugal.

“As you may have heard, severe wildfires have caused a massive amount of damage to Portugal over the last week. These fires have displaced many residents, including LCWW’s Founder, Steven Meserve,” the post reads.

“Steven has had to relocate his family, cats, and dogs to a safe spot outside of harm’s way.”

The event was moved so Meserve can attend.

CATstravaganza events are held around the world to “celebrate all cats.” The events typically feature international cat competitions that showcase some of “the world’s most beautiful cats.” Multiple cats can win awards and prizes.

Attendees can also connect with local adoption agencies, learn more about various cat breeds, and shop for pet products.

Ticketholders who cannot go on the new dates are eligible for a full refund until Oct. 4.
