If St Catharines residents walking along Port Dalhousie Street and Merritton Streets this summer notice a little more flower power than usual, they can thank a local business turned Good Samaritan.

The Canadian Tire stores in the Garden City got together and gave the city 25 environmentally friendly hanging flower baskets. City staff quickly installed them in the cores of the two neighbourhoods this year.

“The new baskets need to be watered less, meaning less trucks on the road to water them and less emissions in the air, helping to keep the city green,” said the city in a release.
