Worker dies this morning at St. Catharines GM plant

While details are still scarce, the Niagara Police have confirmed that a man died at St. Catharines’ GM plant this morning (October 22) after a “workplace incident.”
The accident happened early in the day as emergency crews were called to the General Motors St. Catharines Propulsion Plant on Glendale Ave. about 8 am.
The man was in critical condition when the EMS arrived and while resuscitation efforts were quickly initiated, after he was taken to the hospital, he was pronounced dead.
Jennifer J. Wright, Director of Communications for GM Canada issued a statement shortly past noon, saying, “We’re heartbroken to confirm that we lost an employee today from the GM Canada St. Catharines Plant. We offer both our sympathy and support to the family and loved ones while we cooperate with the authorities in the investigation.”
While the cause of the man’s death remains unknown, the accident is now being investigated by the Ministry of Labour, Niagara Police and the Office of the Coroner. His name has not been released as police are currently notifying next of kin.
