Young offender charged after clubbing opponent with goalie stick during Lincoln hockey tournament

A goalie at a hockey tournament held jointly in Lincoln and Grimsby arenas is in hot water after he hit an opponent in the head with his stick.
Niagara Police responded to a report phoned in regarding ” an assault during a youth hockey game in the Town of Lincoln.”
Police determined that during a December 10 game, a goalie “intentionally struck an opposing player in the head with their stick.” He was instantly suspended from the game and the balance of the December 10-12 tournament.
The victim was threated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Yesterday (January 11), the police charged a 17-year-old male from Grimsby assault using a weapon. He was released with a future court date.
The Youth Criminal Justice Act of Canada prohibits the Niagara Regional Police from identifying the arrested 17-year-old.
