Youths take decommissioned fire truck for joy ride in Niagara Falls

Residents in Niagara Falls were surprised early this morning (Oct. 10) to discover a full-sized fire truck parked in the middle of the road in their neighbourhood.

Niagara Regional Police were called to the scene on Buckeye Crnt. at approximately 1:30 a.m. Oct. 10 and sure enough, officers located a fire truck parked in the middle of the road.

Firefighters from the Niagara Falls Fire Service were present and identified the vehicle as a decommissioned truck not actively in use by the fire department.

Sources say the vehicle is a former Cambridge Fire Department aerial truck.

Police noted several signs of damage to the passenger side of the truck including on the front bumper, passenger side windshield, and side mirror. The driver’s side door was unlocked and left wide open.

Witnesses report seeing two people get out of the truck and run from the area before police arrived. The limited sightings describe the pair as male youths, with one of them possibly wearing a red jacket and a backpack.

Officers have been in contact with the registered owner of the decommissioned fire truck.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances around this incident, including determining where the truck had been stored locally prior to be being stolen.

A large tow service was required to remove the truck from the area.
