A man who was wanted after a double shooting in St. Catharines that left one victim dead and another critically injured was arrested after hours of negotiations at a home, police say.

Niagara Regional Police said that on Friday at around 1:40 p.m., officers responded to the area of Division and Riordon streets following reports of gunshots.

Two men were found with gunshot wounds. One was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, while the other man was taken to an out-of-region hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police said they have information suggesting the shooting was “targeted.”

Investigators released images and descriptions of a suspect and “associate” late Friday, and asked the public for help in identifying them.

Then on Saturday during the noon hour, Niagara police put out a post on X which said that officers were conducting an investigation in the area of St. Paul Street West and Churchill Street in St. Catharines.

Police asked that the public stay away from the area.

In a news release issued later Saturday, police said that at around 4 p.m., officers arrested a man in relation to Friday’s shooting after “several hours of negotiations” at a home on Churchill Street.

Daniel Dale Rosebush, 47, of St. Cathatines was charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder.

Police said they’re still looking for the suspect associate.

Anyone with information was asked to come forward.
